Who is really sick, and is going to spend his 5th birthday (Monday) in the hospital

I asked if they wanted to help me pick out a birthday card

Because his Aunty had written about him – asking people from everywhere to send him a card

To help make his birthday extra special

They decided it would be WAY better if they made cards for him

They were right

I’m off to the post office to send them

Along with about as much love that one envelope can hold

One of those arm band ones, that you wear when you’re jogging

Yeah, I would never need one either

So I grabbed her one, with the intention of giving it to her as part of her birthday gift

Also a few weeks ago, Dad was wondering out loud about what HE should get Mum

I said there was something else I knew she’d like, that I could order online and get it sent straight to their house

I won’t write what it is here, ’cause it hasn’t arrived yet – and there’s just not enough surprises left in the world….is there Mum?

Anyhoo – I ordered said pressie for Dad to give Mum

Everyone sorted, right?

Wrong

Here’s how that shit goes down in my family

I Skype Mum last night for her birthday

She hasn’t opened her gift from me yet

But proceeds to show me what Dad got her

Imagine my ‘what is this fuckery’ face, when she holds up an iPhone arm band holder

I’m like, DAD…do you not remember me showing you the one JUST LIKE THAT that I got Mum?

He’s all, wuh?

I said, REMEMBER, we ordered YOUR gift for Mum online – it’s coming in the mail

He’s like, we did?

So that’s where I gave up

Congratulated Mum on her TWO new iPhone arm band holders

And told her she could have one for each arm now

She suggested that she give one to Dad and he could go running with her

Luckily he didn’t hurt himself too bad when he fainted

I still want to be her when I grow up….happy birthday Mum!

PS - Enjoy the day off they gave everyone in your honour (and for that other chick too)

8 years ago today, Diamond I became parents

Followed by Magoo’s actual birthday yesterday

Her favourite pressie is a purple camera Diamond & I got for her

She has not stopped taking photos with it

And the rest of us now lock the toilet door

She wanted to go to the arcade

It was a beautiful day, so we walked

They blew all their dosh, and had a ball doing it

Even on the games Magoo couldn’t play properly

She may not have been able to reach the peddles on the racing game

But girlfriend gives some fierce road rage when losing

It’s been such a fantastic few days

The kids have almost forgiven us for getting drunk hijacking all the party games on Sunday

A six year old is no match for a limbo-ing Nanna

So it’s a bit of a bonus to be in Oz for the Australia Father’s Day

With Diamond, my brother, my Dad

AND my Pop

We’re most excited

To mark the occasion we’re throwing a big rellie bash

That’s also a mermaid party

The mermaids are more to do with the fact that Dad likes to dress up we’re also celebrating Macaroni & Magoo’s birthdays

And they got to pick the theme

But back in Chicago, at my in-law’s house

For my mother-in-law Mary’s, 70th birthday party

It’s a surprise party

I’m pretty sure 70 has got be the cut off age

For jumping out from behind doors & couches

Yelling, “SURPRISE!” at some poor, unsuspecting soul

She’s such a wonderful lady, it’s going to be awesome to see everyone she loves, altogether

Honoring her

She’s a funny fucker too

But one of those funny fuckers that has no idea just how hilarious she is

Example – the day I met her and Diamond’s dad, Joe

Yeah, that’s right – Joseph & Mary

Very easy to remember for a good Catholic girl even for a recovering Catholic like me

Mary: You likin’ this snowy Chicago weather?

Remember, this is spoken in the thickest Chicago accent

Think Tony Soprano with an apron and a perm

Me: Well I haven’t been around snow much before, so it’s still a novelty…I like it

Mary: This weather’s only good for one thing

Me: What’s that?

Mary: Fucking.

I knew right then that I would marry Diamond

Just to be able to call this 4 foot 10 powerhouse my mother-in-law

Anyhoo

Barring any flight delays, volcanic ash clouds, or natural distasters

I will be arriving at the party about 2 hours after it starts

So all the guests should be getting liquored up have their ‘buzz’ on by that stage

And hopefully won’t even notice my plane hair, food stains down my shirt

Swollen feet and bloodshot eyes

And all the other beauty bonuses that 20 hours of flying can bestow on a girl

Just give me a big hug and a bigger wine please

Not necessarily in that order
